John Lancaster was born in India, and was educated at Marlborough College. He had a distinguished career with the RAF during World War II In 1947, he established himself as a painter in 1947, and exhibited at the Royal Academy. Lancaster made his home at Aspenden, Hertfordshire, until his death.
